RETURN DEADLINE
In Alaska, landlords must return your security deposit within 14 days of you vacating the property.
This deadline typically starts from the day you return the keys and the property is empty. The landlord must either return the full deposit or provide an itemized statement explaining any deductions.
PENALTIES FOR LATE RETURN
Up to 2x your deposit in damages!
If your landlord wrongfully withholds your deposit, you may be entitled to 2 times the amount withheld as damages.
If landlord fails to comply, tenant may recover deposit plus double the amount wrongfully withheld.
MAXIMUM DEPOSIT LIMIT
Two months rent
If your landlord collected more than the legal maximum, you may have additional claims.
