RETURN DEADLINE

In Florida, landlords must return your security deposit within 15 days of you vacating the property.

This deadline typically starts from the day you return the keys and the property is empty. The landlord must either return the full deposit or provide an itemized statement explaining any deductions.

PENALTIES FOR LATE RETURN

Florida does not have a specific statutory penalty multiplier. However, you can still sue your landlord for the amount owed plus court costs.

15 days if no claim; 30 days with claim and itemized notice. Failure = waiver of claim to deposit.

MAXIMUM DEPOSIT LIMIT

No statutory limit

If your landlord collected more than the legal maximum, you may have additional claims.

INTEREST REQUIREMENTS

Florida requires landlords to pay interest on security deposits. If your landlord has not paid you interest, you may be entitled to additional compensation.

Is your Florida landlord late?

If it's been more than 15 days since you moved out and you haven't received your deposit, you have a case.
