In Minnesota, landlords must return your security deposit within 21 days of you vacating the property.
This deadline typically starts from the day you return the keys and the property is empty. The landlord must either return the full deposit or provide an itemized statement explaining any deductions.
PENALTIES FOR LATE RETURN
Minnesota does not have a specific statutory penalty multiplier. However, you can still sue your landlord for the amount owed plus court costs.
Deposit accrues 1% simple interest. Return within 5 days if no forwarding address.
